Avelo eyes future Lakeland expansion, but one route may be cut
Avelo Airlines plans for future expansion at Lakeland Linder International Airport, according to airport staff, but may be dropping a route after the holidays like an unwanted piece of coal. Adam Lunn, recently named LAL's airport director, said the low-budget carrier is likely to continue expanding its commercial passenger services at Lakeland Linder. "We've had conversations with Avelo," he told city commissioners at an Oct. 16 workshop. "They want to continue to expand their base of operations in Lakeland." Avelo designated Lakeland as one of its bases of operation in October 2024. The carrier then moved two of its aircraft to operate out of Lakeland Linder as part of a strategic reorganization in January 2026. With these additional planes, Avelo increased its frequency of service on service between Lakeland and Atlanta (code ATL) in mid-February 2026. Mayor Sara Roberts McCarley asked how the Atlanta route was faring, as the route has been put into service, stopped and restarted during the past two years of Avelo's operations at Lakeland Linder. Crumbs on the car seat were my first clue that a plain strip-mall bakery had just ruined every grocery store loaf for me. Across Florida, small Cuban bakeries pull long golden loaves from the oven before most of us find our shoes. The crust shatters, the inside stays soft as...

Families Keep Returning To This Florida Country Buffet For The Crispy Fried Chicken
Fred’s current menu states that its fried items are cooked in beef tallow. That one detail tells you a lot about how seriously this kitchen takes its golden crunch. The chicken shows up all day long, from the lunch spread straight through dinner. It shares the line with fried catfish, smoked pork ribs, collard greens, and skillet cornbread. More than 90 percent of the dishes get made in-house every single day.

Aughra’s game plan maps out leash walks capped off with couch potato cuddlethons.
