Failed water well causing low water pressure in several N.J. communities, impacting schools

Several communities in Mercer and Monmouth counties are experiencing low water pressure impacting hundreds of customers served by Aqua New Jersey.

Customers in Hamilton, Robbinsville, Allentown, Chesterfield and Trenton will be experiencing low pressure through Sunday, according to the water and wastewater management company’s service alert.

The situation is due to a failure of an Aqua New Jersey’s water well, according to a statement from Robbinsville Township.

Sharon Elementary School in Robbinsville closed Friday while Pond Road Middle School and Robbinsville High School will have early dismissals, according to a statement from the township.

Aqua NJ has identified the issue causing the low pressure and contractors are currently on site working on repairs to return the system to normal operations, according to a company statement

All residents and businesses are urged to voluntarily conserve water when possible. The water is safe to drink, the company said.

Residents are strongly encouraged to avoid long showers, delay washing clothes for a few days, not fill up their pools, and to not water their lawn or wash their car, according to a statement from Chesterfield Township.
