The Mercer County Homicide Task Force and the Trenton police are investigating the fatal shooting of a reputed leader of the Bloods street gang on Friday night.

Sharief Treadwell, a self-described ‘four-star general” of the Trenton Gangsta Killa Bloods sect, died after being shot in the area of Oakland and Hoffman streets. Trenton police were alerted to shots fired around 8:42 p.m, and spotted a car careening down Hoffman Street, smashing into several parked cars, the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office said.

Treadwell, 36, was shot “multiple” times, the prosecutor’s office said. Police officers rendered first aid to the victim, and he was taken to Capital Health Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead a short time later.

So far, there have been no arrests. The Mercer County Homicide Task Force asks anyone with information to contact Detective Elijah Phillips at (609) 414-2006 or Sgt. Roberto Reyes at (609) 256-0997. Information can also be emailed to mchtftips@mercercounty.org.

Treadwell was twice charged with attempted murder for his alleged involvement in shootings, once in 2006 and again in 2014. But the charges were dismissed both times.

In the second incident, Treadwell and three accomplices were accused of engaging in a shootout with rival gang members in a courtyard on Coolidge Avenue in Trenton. No one was injured, although authorities said a mother and her seven-year-old narrowly escaped the barrage of bullets.

Treadwell fled and was captured days later by a SWAT team in Falls Township in Bucks County, Pennsylvania. He was initially held on $50 million bail by Pennsylvania authorities before being extradited to New Jersey. Treadwell and an alleged accomplice were indicted on attempted murder and weapons possession charges in 2015.
