A shooting Sunday evening in Trenton killed a woman and wounded a man, and police found the suspected gunman dead inside a nearby home of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot, the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office said.
Trenton officers responding to a 6:35 p.m. activation of their gunfire detection system in the 100 block of Pennington Avenue found two people shot at the avenue’s intersection with Monroe Street.
The woman and man were taken to Capital Health’s Regional Medical Center. The woman had multiple wounds and died a short time later. The man had a gunshot wound to his hand and survived, a prosecutor’s office spokeswoman said.
While investigating at the scene, a concerned citizen alerted officers that the gunman was inside a nearby Pennington Avenue residence. Officers found a man dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot to the head. A firearm was next to his body, the spokeswoman said.
The incident was under investigation late Sunday. The names of the deceased were not released.
