Law enforcement officers search woods near park in Alexander County

ALEXANDER COUNTY, N.C. — More than two dozen sheriff’s deputies, State Bureau of Investigation agents, and first responders are searching Alexander County near a popular park north of Taylorsville.

They were looking in an area along Rocky Top Road on Thursday, but we don’t know much about what they’re looking for.

Investigators have been tight-lipped about whether this connected to connected to any cases in Alexander County. The sheriff said officers would be in the woods for several hours Thursday searching near the Rocky Face Recreational Area.

“So this area is very steep. It’s the northern end of our county,” said Alexander County Sheriff Chad Pennell. “The foliage is out. It’s sort of hard to travel, and it’s going to take us some time to get through this area.”

The sheriff said he hopes to release more details about their investigation by this weekend.
