Silversmiths split high-scoring doubleheader
SHERRILL — The Sherrill Silversmiths bounced back from an afternoon loss to split a doubleheader with the visiting Rochester Ridgemen on Wednesday. In the first game, Rochester opened fast with three first-inning runs. That's how it stayed through four innings, before both offenses got up to speed. The Ridgemen scored twice in the fifth and Sherrill responded with three runs. But the visitors immediately scored three of their own. It was 8-3 after six innings. Rochester scored four and then Sherrill scored three but fell short in a comeback attempt in the seven-inning game, losing 12-6.
YMCA opens 'airnasium' at Camp Arrowhead
Pittsford, N.Y. — The YMCA of Greater Rochester held the grand opening Thursday for its new "airnasium" at Camp Arrowhead. The open-air gym — which is the first of its kind in Monroe County — includes a turf field for youth sports, bathrooms, lockers and some picnic tables.
