    Softball Sectional Championships

    Class A: (1) Pittsford Sutherland 2, (3) Honeoye Falls-Lima 1

Gabby Lyons hit a two-run home run in the fifth inning which proved to be the difference, giving Sutherland their first sectional title since 2022. It’s the program’s fourth title in the last seven seasons.

After four scoreless innings, eighth-grader Emma Hollenbeck drew a walk in the bottom of the fifth. With two outs, Lyons got her home with a no-doubter over the left field fence.

The Cougars answered in the sixth inning and nearly took the lead. Madison Schubach hit an RBI double to make it 2-1. HF-L had two runners in scoring position but pitcher Petra Hunt was able to field a grounder that came back to her to get out of the jam.

HF-L threatened in the seventh inning with runners on first and third, but Julia Delaney caught a pop fly in foul territory to end the game.

Sutherland (18-4) will advance to the Far West Regionals where they will take on Williamsville South or Iroquois.

HF-L, the defending Class A2 champions, saw their season end with a 14-8 record.

The game was originally scheduled for 12:30 p.m. but was pushed back to 5:00 p.m. due to storms in the area.

    Class AA: (1) Schroeder 9, (3) Thomas 1

Liana DeValder continued her stellar postseason run, allowing one or fewer runs for the third straight game to push Schroeder over their rivals for the Class AA title. The championship is their third in the last four years.

DeValder helped her own cause in the first, starting the scoring with an RBI single.

The Warriors increased their lead to 4-0 with a three-run third inning. Elizabeth Baglieri started the inning with a standup triple. She later scored on a fielder’s choice. Schroeder got another run on the basepaths and Sarah Ferruza closed the scoring with an RBI double.

Schroeder scored another run in the fifth inning and Thomas finally answered with their first run of the game in the sixth when Maddie Throumoulos hit an RBI single.

However, the Warriors responded with four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to put the game away.

Schroeder (20-2) will play either Williamsville East or Clarence in the Far West Regionals next weekend.

Thomas sees their season end with an 18-6 record.

The game was originally scheduled for 3:00 p.m. but was pushed back to 8:00 p.m. due to storms in the area.

The Class AAA title game between Fairport and Greece was moved from Saturday night to Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
