Suppose you're contemplating bringing a new puppy into your family. The dog breed is an initial consideration. So, now you have your target dog breed! In that case, there are a few points to consider, such as having ample time to spend with your puppy, consistent training, and ongoing veterinary costs. Regardless, decide whether to go to a breeder or rescue and do homework on specific dog breeds. Personality traits may vary between animals, but dog breeds will have typical attributes you should expect. Is the pricer the pup, the better? Perhaps not, but if you've ever wondered, here are the top ten most expensive dog breeds, in no particular order:

    The Tibetan Mastiff

Price: $2000 US dollars to millions!

The Tibetan mastiff is a beautiful, large dog weighing about 70- 100 pounds. Their coats are thick, making them look even more prominent than they are. These dogs are workers bred to spend time outdoors and are apt to bond with livestock. They may bond with your family, but they are fiercely protective. Tibetan mastiffs are intelligent and headstrong but not usually aggressive unless provoked. They require a lot of outdoor exercise and stimulation.

    Czechoslovakian Wolfdog

    Price: $50,000 U.S. Dollars

The price tag for this animal is probably steep because of its rarity. The Czechoslovakian Wolfdog emerged in 1955 when German Shepherds were interbred with Carpathian wolves. To purchase one, you would have to travel to the Czech Republic or Slovakia (what used to be Czechoslovakia) because they don't seem to exist anywhere else in the world. Even there, they're scarce. Since this dog retains wolf DNA, it should go without saying that this breed is most definitely not a beginner's dog or an animal suited for small children. Good luck finding one, anyway.

    Chow-Chow

    Price: $4,000-11,000 U.S. Dollars

An ancient Chinese dog breed that once notably accompanied emperors, the chow-chow price varies depending on its lineage. What makes this dog especially expensive isn't just the purchase price. Maintenance costs can add up with a thick double coat that requires frequent grooming and clipping. While chow-chows are breathtakingly handsome, they may not suit families with small children; they don't take kindly to being handled roughly.

    English Bulldog

    Price: $5,000-8,000 US. Dollars

Instantly recognizable, the English bulldog holds a special place in many dog lover's hearts. Despite their fierce appearance, English bulldogs are well known for being sweet and amiable, making them an excellent choice for families. They also tend to have lower energy levels than most dogs, so they may be suitable for those with smaller living spaces.

    The French Bulldog

    Price: $5,000-10,000 U.S. Dollars

"Frenchies," as they're affectionately called, have become among the most popular dog breeds in the United States. The reasons are easy to see: They're playful, loving, and an excellent choice for families. Due to their popularity, these little dogs may be pricier because of increased demand. Their sweet little faces make it easy to see why they're so popular.

    Samoyed

    Price: $14,000 U.S. Dollars

Samoyeds have a bit in common with the chow-chow besides having a hefty price tag. They, too, are an ancient breed from Asia and are expensive to keep. A medium-sized dog with a striking pure white double coat, these animals are sought after. Unlike the chow-chow, the samoyed is known for being sweet, tolerant and a great companion for children.

    Afghan Hound

    Price: $7,000 U.S Dollars

Known as one of the most gorgeous dog breeds, the Afghan hound can be described as elegant with its long, silky fur. This medium-sized dog was developed in the rugged mountains of Afghanistan as a working dog. Its temperament can be aloof, but once it gets to know you, it loves to play. They can be a suitable family dog, but they're hard to get a hold of due to their rarity.

    Akita

    Price: $6,500 U.S. Dollars

This large, double-coated dog originating from Northern Japan has gained popularity. It has a "cousin" dog breed called the Sheba Inu, which looks like a miniature version and is featured on the "dogecoin," a form of cryptocurrency that started as a joke but then took off as a legitimate currency. Akitas were initially bred as hunting dogs. Because of this, this breed can be high-energy and require assertive, consistent training.

    Portuguese Water Dog

    Price: $5,000 U.S. Dollars

One of the sweetest dog breeds, the Portuguese water dog is highly prized for both its temperament and for being hypoallergenic. This breed's popularity skyrocketed when U.S. President Barack Obama took office. His daughter Malia was allergic to dogs, but the family still wanted a dog in the family. Enter Bo, the Portugese Water dog. He was later joined by Sunny, a female dog of the same breed, a few years later. This breed remains one of the most popular worldwide.

    Lowchen

    Price: $12,000 U.S. Dollars

This small dog breed is known as the "little lion dog" across Europe. Originating from Germany, it is an excellent choice for families, as it is easy to train, typically easy-going and loves to play. Due to their relative rarity, they can be hard to find, which may explain why they're expensive. Their long, wavy coats require professional grooming and are usually lion-clipped like poodles.

    That's a Wrap!

This is just a taste of a few expensive dog breeds. There are more, but this list was compiled from several different sources. Whether you get your dog from a breeder or a rescue, understand that each animal is unique. While dog breeds may have typical traits, understand that sometimes you'll find a dog who goes outside the norm of its breed. Sometimes, you'll find that perfect mixed-breed dog that is truly priceless.

Breeders are price gouging! Do they even care who gets a puppy or is it all about the money to them? Sickening! Our best dog was free with a leash and bag of dog food. Lab mix. Today he’d be called a designer dog and cost big bucks. When did mutts become so expensive?
