Winds on the rise as coastal low approaches
The coastal low has spread rain over the East and will continue to keep the pattern wet through Wednesday. Winds will be increasing over Wednesday and Thursday, keeping the flow of cooler and drier air consistent enough to drop humidity levels over the second half of the week. Sustained wind speeds Wednesday and Thursday will range between 10 to 20 mph for inland areas while the coast sees 25 to 35 mph with gusts reaching between 40 to 50 mph. These winds will likely create a coastal flooding threat that will be focused over the Outer Banks, but could also impact those near the sounds as well. Wind advisories have already been issued for the coast. High temps will be in the mid 70s to close out the week.

Heat and humidity make a return trip to the East
After a few days of September weather, we are going to be backtracking into a summer-like air mass over the next two days. Highs on both Thursday and Friday will hit the low 90s, and with rising humidity, it will feel like we’re in the mid 90s. A south-southwesterly breeze will blow over the East at 6 to 12 mph under mostly sunny skies. A few isolated thunderstorms will be possible late Thursday afternoon. Storms will be more widespread Friday afternoon thanks to a frontal boundary approaching from the north, creating more instability over Eastern NC.
