Second arrest in Tonawanda traffic stop that critically injured officer

Tonawanda, N.Y. (WBEN) - Town of Tonawanda Police have made a second arrest in a stolen vehicle traffic stop incident that critically injured an officer.

Police have arrested 19 year old Mariah Pietrangeli, of Lewiston, in connection to the stop that occurred Monday, May 29th.

Pietrangeli was a passenger in a stolen 2019 Kia Sportage that fled that traffic stop, dragging and injuring Officer David Piatek.

Police had previously arrested Dareious Akbar of the City of Buffalo on multiple charges, including attempted murder and aggravated assault.

Pietrangeli is charged with criminal possession of stolen property in the third degree, a class D felony, and unauthorized use of a vehicle in the third degree, a class A misdemeanor. She was arraigned Friday evening by
the Honorable Judge Cavarello of the Town of Tonawanda Justice Court and was released due to both charges not being eligible for bail.

Her next court appearance is June 26, 2023 at 10:30 AM.
