New Mexico woman killed in Nevada crash
MCKINLEY COUNTY, N.M. (KRQE) – A 22-year-old woman from New Mexico was killed in a crash near Tonopah, Nevada, on May 8, according to Nevada Highway Patrol (NHP). Officials said the driver of a Chevrolet Tahoe was traveling westbound on US-6 west of mile marker 22 in the eastbound travel lane. A blue 2020 Kia Optima was traveling eastbound approaching mile marker 22 in the eastbound travel lane. The driver of the Tahoe steered to the left at the same time as the driver of the Kia Optima steered to the right.

What began as a routine traffic stop led to a Prewitt woman, Evelynn Sweeney, 60, being arrested and charged with her third DWI. McKinley County Deputy Aaron Marquez pulled a red Toyota Tacoma over on Highway 371 near mile marker 1. He had run the vehicle’s license plate through his portable computer and was advised that the vehicle’s insurance and registration were both suspended.

McKinley County Sheriff’s deputies caught a man from Indiana trying to transport a stolen vehicle. On May 1, around 5:45 pm, McKinley County Sheriff’s Deputy Brandi Garnenez was on traffic duty on US. Hwy. 491 when she found a man named James Purkey driving a 2002 silver Dodge Dakota with an Arizona license plate that she believed had been stolen.

Tohatchi man charged for deadly shooting on Navajo Reservation
MCKINLEY COUNTY, N.M. (KRQE) – A Tohatchi man is charged for a deadly shooting on the Navajo Reservation earlier this month. According to the criminal complaint, on May 12, the Navajo Police Department received an emergency call regarding a shooting near Tohatchi, New Mexico, within the Navajo Nation. EMS responded to the coordinates the caller provided and found a female inside a home with an apparent gunshot wound. She died on the way to the hospital, officials said.

With a playoff game on the line, Newcomb rose to the challenge on Wednesday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Hatch Valley Bears 15-14. For Hatch Valley's part, Jadelyn Gillespie and Maggie Reyes stepped up to the plate in a big way.
