Basketball Tourney Set for Dec. 27-29
The 37th Annual Pepsi Carolina Classic presented by South Carolina Federal Credit Union is shaping up to be a great stage for varsity high school basketball. Nestled in one of the main commercial areas of the City, this year's premiere tournament will be held Dec. 27-29 at West Florence High School, 221 N. Beltline Dr., Florence. The tournament location rotates each year among West Florence, Wilson, and South Florence High Schools.
Season of Giving Helps 6 Local Families
Now through Christmas, the Wake Up Carolina Show will hold an on-air program designed to help our fellow Pee Dee residents in need. Wake Up Carolina and Pepsi Cola of Florence plan to assist six anonymous families with basic needs for the holidays. The six families will be provided by Youth Mentors of the Pee Dee (formerly Big Brothers-Big Sisters) and The Boys and Girls Clubs of the Pee Dee.

City To Spend $5.5M on Blue Street
Darlington City Council plans to spend $5.5 million on the sports complex on Blue Street, though specific plans or drawings have not been made available. During Tuesday's meeting, Council approved first reading of an ordinance to take out no more than $3.1 million in bonds for the project. The remainder of the $5.5 million will come from hospitality tax revenue and FILOT payments from Georgia Pacific's $142M expansion.

Vote on Darlington Ballfields Set
Darlington City Council will hold the first of a series of votes on the Blue Street Ballfields during Tuesday's regular monthly meeting at 6 p.m. at City Hall, 400 Pearl St. This follows a joint announcement of the collaborative Blue Street project on Oct. 31 with Darlington County School District (DCSD) in the midst of the election for three at-large city council seats and the mayor's seat. The DCSD Board of Education also will need to approve the project.
