The Tigard Public Library will close Sunday out of ‘an abundance of caution’ following the threats surrounding the event, police said.

The Tigard Public Library canceled a Drag Queen Storytime event scheduled for Sunday due to threats of violence.

Officials also said they will shut the library down for the day as a precautionary measure. A planned sit-in protest and a counter-protest had been circulating on social media, but officials have not confirmed the source of the threats.

Tigard police spokesperson Kelsey Anderson said the “threats are part of an ongoing investigation” and are “isolated to this specific event.”

The event was sponsored by the city of Tigard as part of Pride Month.

It would have featured Poison Waters, a well-known Portland drag queen. Waters also was the 2023 Rose Festival Starlight Parade Grand Marshall last weekend.
