Two K9s from Washington County and Tualatin managed to sniff out the source of several inmate overdoses in the Thurston County jail - contraband fentanyl cleverly hidden inside plastic chess pieces.
The Washington County Sheriff's Office says that earlier in March several adults in custody at the Thurston County Sheriff’s Office in Olympia overdosed on fentanyl.
On March 15, WCSO's K9 Mando and a K9 from the Tualatin Police Department were sent to the TCSO. The dogs are certified to find fentanyl, as well as many other illegal drugs.
The working dogs found fentanyl in multiple jail cells, and each time the drug was hidden inside plastic chess pieces.
Earlier in March K9 Mando helped find 150K fentanyl pills and 3 kilos of powdered fentanyl being trafficked through a home in Washington County.
