The mission to get back to state finals for the first time since 2021 for the Mid Valley softball is still on course after yesterday’s come from behind win in the PIAA 3A quarterfinals.
Trialing in the bottom of the 6th Madison Kizer connected on a double to tie the game and then Courtney Rebar blasted this game winning two run home run to propel the Spartanettes to the semifinals.
Courtney Rebar, Mid Valley Senior says, “Before I went up to bat I asked my coaches where she has been pitching to me. My favorite pitch is low and I took it low and I just drove it.”
Madison Kizer, Mid Valley Senior added,” We started of slow and couldn’t hit at fist and then we all came together and brought it in and we said we want this more and we did it. “
Mike Piercy, Mid Valley Manager says , “ They are so resilient and have big game experience. I think it was normal to doubt a little bit, half way through the game we were not having great at bats but I thin as the game went on our bats slowly came to life and we were able to put up a crooked number there in the 6th. “
Once again Mid Valley’s team starts with Villanova commit Maranda Runco. The Senior led off the game with a solo homer, her 18th of the season and then dazzled on the mound striking out 9 on the mound for her 215th of the season.
Piercy says, “ We are in every game with Maranda on the mound when she is on her A game she is so tough. She threw great today and a few walks came back to bite us but she brings her A game all of the time and we are lucky to have her and proud of her and everybody else. “
Maranda Runco, Mid Valley Senior(Villanova) added, “ I was getting a little wild and I knew if they hit the ball my defense and teammates would have my back. I am very confident in my team. I am always aggressive at the plate even if it is the first pitch. It wans’t the best pitch to swing at but I knew if I got on it it would be in the field. “
The Seniors will keep that dream alive of trying to get back to he state finals for the first time in two seasons when they take field again in the semifinals Monday. “
Runco says, “ I know our drive is huge. We always say win the last game which is the state championship game and we just keep fighting and fighting and even if we are down we know we can come back. “
Piercy added, “ From day one our goal is to get to Penn State and win the state title and we are not going to be satisfied with anything else. “:
Mid Valley will take on Palisades Monday at Bloomsburg University starting at 4pm.
