Robin Jones, a senior at Thomas University, and a group of friends have established a volunteer organization determined to make a difference by cleaning and conserving our local environment.

“We began as a group of friends all over Georgia and Florida. Through hiking, we realized how much trash was on the trails and surrounding areas” Robin said. “ That was where the beginning of the idea came from. We had an idea about this little company that would help clean the environments in the communities.”

Little by Little, the name of their group, will do just that. As they continue to enjoy the outdoors they will be working to rid the local trails of litter ‘little by little’.

Co-founder Sam Gilbert, an International Business Major at Florida State University, supports the idea of starting small for a better focus of enacting changes in the local community environments. Same is also a product of the Thomasville County school system with a personal investment for the local communities within the city.

Sam would go on to state that they were focused towards helping out primarily local communities as the main goal of the company, stating that they wanted to help by committing to the “Little things that we can control.”

Another Thomas University student, Yunuen Medina, is also an integral part of the organization. She will be heading the Social Media, and Communications department for the company.

Little-by-Little is a non-profit organization that aims to conserve the flora and fauna of local communities within the Southern Georgia, Northern Florida area. The group plans to achieve this goal via clean-up events, educational programs about conservation for the youth, and providing communities with information that will be locally specific and relevant in their pursuit of keeping the environment clean.

With that in mind, the group envisions a starting point here in Thomasville, as they envision the city becoming more proactive and environmentally self-sufficient as a result of their efforts.

“We’re really optimistic with the future of our organization,” Robin stated. “Specifically, due to the level of engagement and help we’ve received from Thomas University, and surrounding local institutions.”

On March 4, the newly formed group will be hosting its inaugural event cleaning up Dillon Road here in the Rose City. The event will last from 12pm-2pm with the organization looking for volunteers who sign-up via their website that want to help make a difference, and will provide all volunteers with equipment necessary for the task of cleaning the Dillon Road highway.

For more information regarding this event, the organization’s goals and mission statement, and potential future events, visit their website at littlebylittlevolunteers.org. From there, access towards the company’s social media, including Instagram, Twitter, and LinkedIn will be available for more information.
