MIAMI Dolphins defensive tackle Calais Campbell has shared what Tyreek Hill said to him during his detainment before the NFL team’s opener over the weekend.
The Dolphins star Hill was handcuffed after an alleged traffic offense in walking distance of Hard Rock Stadium early Sunday.
Pictures circulated of Hill being on the ground after being pulled over for speeding, according to ESPN .
“I think [Tyreek] said it more like a brother,” the NFL veteran Campbell added.
“A brother saying hey man, I’m in a tough spot. I want you here with me.
“Growing up in America, my dad always said with police officers to always comply and always let them know you’re not a threat.
“So that’s the first thing I did.
“But it was also we had to be there for each other, look out for each other, because these situations can escalate quickly.
After Sunday’s game, Campbell gave his side of what happened from his point of view.
“I was driving to the game. The lane I’m in is blocked. I see Tyreek in handcuffs. I’d seen, I feel like excessive force, so I get out of the car to kind of just try to deescalate the situation and I think the officer just – I don’t know why he felt the need to put me in handcuffs, but I mean it is what it is,” he told reporters, per USA Today .
Campbell’s teammate Jonnu Smith was also attempting to defuse the incident.
The six-time Pro Bowler Campbell told reporters the officers had accused him of “disobeying a direct order.”
“He said I was too close to the scene and then I think he said something about me not moving my car in time, I don’t know,” he explained.
“He told me I wasn’t being arrested but he cited me for being detained and then released.”
The Miami-Dade Police Department has launched an internal investigation, which has led to an officer being placed on administrative leave shortly after the game.
Despite the intense trip to the stadium, Hill managed to record 130 yards and a touchdown.
After his 80-yard score, Dolphins wideout Jaylen Waddle pretended to uncuff Hill as part of a team celebration.
Miami will have to prepare quickly for their next game as they will host the divisional rival Buffalo Bills on Thursday Night Football .
I don’t know what happened. The police think that they can just beat on people for no reason at all what happened to cops that used to ask for your license and just give you a ticket.
