TREMONT – Firefighters remained on the scene in this western Schuylkill community well into Monday afternoon after flames wrecked a portion of its central business district.

The mixed-used building that housed Dee’s Flowers was demolished Monday afternoon.

Firefighters from across Schuylkill County and upper Dauphin County responded just after 11pm Sunday to the unit block of East Main Street in the borough where flames enveloped much of the rear of Dee’s Flowers.

The blaze spread west through four other buildings, including Randazzo’s Pizza.

Tremont Fire Chief Brian Eisenacher said no one was injured in the firefight and the fire remains under investigation.

The American Red Cross says they are assisting 21 people who were displaced — 12 adults and nine children.

Eisenacher said it was one of the largest fires in the area in about a decade.

Firefighters from as far as Frackville, Schuylkill Haven and Lykens responded.

Crews were called back Monday afternoon as hotspots re-ignited.

The Schuylkill County Municipal Authority said the firefight drained their water sources for the Tremont system to critical levels and asked all customers in the area to reduce their water usage.
