Man struck, killed in Tamaqua

TAMAQUA – A man was struck and killed as he was walking along Route 209 in the borough early Monday morning.

Tamaqua Police were called to the area of 1299 East Broad Street, near the entrance to the Lehigh Coal property, around 4:35am where they found a man laying in the roadway. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the vehicle that struck the man remained at the scene and cooperated with police.

Authorities are working to identify the man.

The State Police Accident Reconstruction Unit was called in to investigate.

Route 209 between Tamaqua and Coaldale was closed for about two hours.
