    Summer Reading Program is a huge success at Prentiss and Bassfield libraries

    The 2024 Summer Reading Program was a great success at Prentiss and Bassfield public libraries.

    This year’s theme was The Adventure Begins with the program being held on Tuesdays in Bassfield and Thursdays in Prentiss.

    The popular Prize Stores were available at both libraries encouraging participants to read and earn reward bucks to spend at either library.

    The Bassfield top reader was JDC’s Little Miss Hospitality Joshlynn Sylvas.

    She read over 500 books during the 2024 Summer Reading Program and received her goal award, a Fire HD 8 Kids Pro. She was also given a Coca-Cola basketball goal, donated by Coca-Cola United of Hattiesburg.

    The top reader in Prentiss was Taylor. She read 92 books and 2,385 chapters. She earned a Kindle Fire tablet.

    Participants enjoyed programs including Around the World, MSU Extension, Adventures in Science and the final Wetdown Day where Prentiss and Bassfield Fire Departments provided a water spray for the the readers.

    Two tickets were given away at each library to the Grand Paradise Water Park in Collins. Elon won the drawing in Prentiss and Larry won the drawing in Bassfield.

    All programs were free for children in Jefferson Davis County in grades K-6.

    Sponsors of the Summer Reading Program were Dampeer’s Family Restaurant, Dorothy’s Snowball Stand, Griffith’s Discount Tire, Hudson Drugs, Jeff Davis Farmer’s Co-Op, King Lumber and Materials, Newpointe Pharmacy, LeNails, Saulters Moore Funeral Home, Southern Pine Electric, Speights Cash and Carry, Stacy

    Clark State Farm, Tresses, W. E. Bullock, Grand Paradise Waterpark and Friends of the Prentiss Library.
