Selena Gomez grieves as she can't carry her own kids due to heartbreaking medical issues

Selena Gomez revealed that she can't carry her own children.

She told Vanity Fair : "I haven’t ever said this but I unfortunately can’t carry my own children. I have a lot of medical issues that would put my life and the baby’s in jeopardy. That was something I had to grieve for a while."

The pop star explained that starting a family is important to her and a part of her long-term vision, but Selena just won't be able to take the traditional path to get there. Instead, the star said she has weighed her options between adoption and surrogacy, though, she doesn't know exactly what she'll do when the time is right.

She explained: "It made me really thankful for the other outlets for people who are dying to be moms. I’m one of those people. I’m excited for what that journey will look like, but it’ll look a little different. At the end of the day, I don’t care. It’ll be mine. It’ll be my baby."

After all, adoption isn't an unfamiliar route for her family since her mother was adopted, too. "I don’t know what her life would’ve been like. She and I are very thankful for how life played out," Selena added.

The family's history with family planning and parenthood shaped Selena, she admitted. Her mother was only 16 when she gave birth, leaving them to "grow up together."

Her parents were only married for a few years which Selena said was "hard on" her. So, the Rare Beauty founder doesn't necessarily want to see her relationship end with the same fate, making her a little slower to the possibility of marriage. Nonetheless, she did have a plan to start a family by the time she was 35, a number that she is only three years from.

Right now, Selena is in a very serious relationship with Benny Blanco and engagement rumors have plagued the couple since the beginning. While marriage might not be, family planning is definitely top of mind for her.

She explained: "Before I met my boyfriend, I was single for five years, with the exception of going on a few dates and I was like, ‘Okay, if this is the vibe, then what is the most important thing to me? Family.'"
