Sarah Huckabee Sanders: Harris can’t get through interview without ‘babysitter’

Arkansas Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders (R) said Democrats believe Vice President Harris “needs a babysitter” in reference to her upcoming interview on CNN with her running mate, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz (D).

“It’s clear that her own team and her own party think she needs a babysitter,” Sanders said on “Fox & Friends” to the outlet’s Ainsley Earhardt on Wednesday. “And that’s why they’re putting her vice presidential nominee on the stage with her, so that he can step in and answer questions if things go like the clips we just saw, like she has done in previous interviews.”

CNN recently announced that Harris and Walz are taking part in a joint interview with the network’s Dana Bash airing on Thursday. The pair’s upcoming interview comes after growing calls for Harris to sit for an interview as she has ascended to the top of the Democratic presidential ticket.

“This isn’t even a tough interview. This is on CNN,” Sanders said.

When reached for a comment, a CNN spokesperson told The Hill, “Dana Bash is a well-respected veteran journalist who has covered politics and politicians in Washington for over three decades.”

“She has extensive experience interviewing major political figures and is highly qualified to interview both Vice President Kamala Harris and Governor Tim Walz. We look forward to their conversation,” the spokesperson added.

Harris has garnered large amounts of enthusiasm and energy among her party amid her rise to the top of the Democratic ticket. She has also been gaining on former President Trump in the polls, opening up a 4.3 point lead in an average of national polls from The Hill/Decision Desk HQ over the former president.

Trump and Harris are set to go head-to-head in an ABC News debate in a few weeks. The former president has recently raised questions about whether he will be a part of that debate but said Tuesday he had “reached an agreement,” presumably with Harris’s campaign.

“We have also been given assurance by ABC that this will be a ‘fair and equitable’ Debate, and that neither side will be given the questions in advance,” Trump said.
