Chicago's Fall Colors Finally Peak After Record 88-Degree Scorcher
Chicago's fall foliage show is finally hitting its stride, with the Chicago Botanic Garden's senior director of horticulture pegging the third week of October 2026 as the best window for peak color this season. It's a later arrival than many gardeners are used to, and the delay traces back to a stretch of unusually warm weather that pushed temperatures to record highs earlier in the month.

CHICAGO - Dry and warm to unseasonably-warm conditions persist through the weekend. The only bumps in the road will be some early-morning fog and a minor lake breeze each day. A Dense Fog Advisory has been issued for northern Cook and Lake counties until 9 a.m. I expect pockets of dense fog will be found as I encountered on the Edens driving in. Visibilities will be near zero in some spots early this morning.
