Another playoff game, another big win for the Texline Tornados. It sets up a rematch of last year's 1A Regional Quarterfinal which the Tornados hope will go a bit differently than 2023.

Thursday night saw Texline meet Valley in the area round at Caprock High School. The tornados made quick work of the Patriots, jumping out early and finishing with a 68-29 victory.

It was a fast start for Texline as they jumped out to a 12-0 lead and held Valley scoreless until 3:56 remained in the first. Texline was up 18-2 entering the second quarter and led 43-10 at halftime. Credit Valley for fighting in the second half as they outscored their first half production in the third quarter alone, but the Pats trailed 56-24 entering the fourth and ultimately fell.

"I liked our effort," Texline head coach Coby Beckner said. "I liked our execution and the way we hit the boards. I really liked how aggressive (Hayden) Alston was. ... Overall I thought we played hard and that we executed well. I was super pleased with how active we were."

Alston led the way with 20 points, Joe Clay had 14, Will Clay added 11 and Hayden Drumm chipped in 10. Texline will face Nazareth in the regional quarterfinals next. Last year, the Swifts eliminated the Tornados in this very round. Texline will be hoping for a different result this time around.
