The Tenino softball team put together another impressive offensive performance on Tuesday, topping Rainier 11-9.

As the designated road team, the Beavers (2-4) didn’t score in the first inning, but they scored eight in the second to take an 8-2 lead, including a grand slam from Sophia Hussey.

“It was nice to see that,” Tenino coach Chris Johnson said. “The girls loved it.”

After the Beavers added a ninth run in the top of the fifth, the Mountaineers (3-2) began to rally back, first with five in the fifth, then two in the sixth to tie the game at nine.

Tenino took the lead for good with two runs in the top of the seventh, first scoring on an error before adding an insurance run on an RBI groundout from Kiyah Goodwin.

Chloe Grayless went four and two-thirds in the circle and also went 2 for 2 at the plate with a triple. Macie Schraber knocked in two runs, and Tamara Snodderly went 2 for 3 with a double and an RBI and pitched the final two and a third.

“We didn’t quit,” Johnson said. “We didn’t give up. If we’re down, or if it's close, we can still claw our way back into it and do just fine with that … It's really fun to see them push themselves and force good things to happen.”

Ryleigh Cruse finished a triple shy of the cycle at the plate while driving in two and also pitching the final six innings in the circle.

Brooklyn Swenson drove in three runs, and Carolyn Ferguson went 2 for 3 with a double, and she scored two runs.

Tenino will head to Eatonville on Wednesday, while Rainier will also head to Eatonville for its next matchup on Friday.
