TEMPE, AZ (3TV/CBS 5) — Dozens of flotation rings are set to be installed at Tempe Town Lake next week, the city announced on Friday, days after a lawsuit was filed against Tempe by the family of a man who drowned in the lake last year. The city says 37 flotation rings will be installed at various access points of Tempe Town Lake starting on Monday, and the project is expected to be complete in the coming weeks.

The notice states that people have 180 days to find another place to live. However, the letter didn’t give an exact date on when people needed to be moved out by. “There’s people in here with no place to go, older people, and handicapped people,” Roy Hennemann said. “I’ll land on my feet. I always do, but I’m worried about them.”

Glendale police say the crash happened near 53rd Avenue and Camelback Road around 4:30 a.m. Details are extremely limited but officers say that the pedestrian was rushed to the hospital with serious, life-threatening injuries while the driver involved stayed at the scene. At this time, detectives are working to learn if another car was involved as well.

PHOENIX (3TV/CBS 5) -- One person is dead, and nine others were taken to the hospital after a multi-vehicle crash in Phoenix on Saturday afternoon. First responders were called to a five-vehicle crash near 67th Avenue and Coolidge Street, south of Camelback Road, around 12:45 p.m. Police say three cars were heading north when one driver attempted to pass another vehicle but lost control. The driver then struck the other two cars. However, the at-fault driver and another car went into oncoming traffic and hit two vehicles heading south. Phoenix Fire says a total of 10 people were injured. Among the injured was 68-year-old Martha Alicia Cervantes Inzunza, who was hospitalized but later died.

According to the Town of Queen Creek, the newly created 85144 zip code will comprise the area south of Empire Boulevard, west of Gary Road and north of Arizona Farms Road. About 280 homes and businesses are already within the zip code’s boundaries, including the Goldmine Estates subdivision, Earnhardt Queen Creek and U-Haul Moving & Storage. The new ZIP code will take effect on July 1.

PHOENIX (3TV/CBS 5/AP) — Gov. Katie Hobbs announced on Thursday a new report regarding Phoenix’s groundwater situation and new restrictions that will impact new construction in the Valley. The study, Phoenix Active Management Area Groundwater Model, revealed that about 4% or nearly 5 million acre-feet of the groundwater demand needed for the Valley would not be met if nothing is done. So, as required by law, Hobbs said the state is pausing new construction in the Phoenix area that relies on groundwater. She also announced a $40 million investment to help with water conservation.

Emergency crews arrived and rushed Long to the hospital where he later died from his injuries. The driver stayed at the scene and cooperated with detectives.
