What It's Really Like to Be an Assistant During Fashion Week

Behind a presentation no longer than 15 or 20 minutes are months of ideation, countless last-minute fixes, and teams of dozens. While a game of who’s-who unfolds as celebs and industry A-listers take their front row seating, just a curtain away is a scene far busier and less glamorous than the sheen of the catwalk.

After weeks of speculation on whether or not the “childless cat lady” would share her political leanings this election cycle, Swift took to Instagram following the debate between Harris and Trump on September 10 to share that she is voting blue.

Go Backstage at The New School’s Parsons School of Design MFA NYFW Show
There’s nothing quite like the few hours before a fashion show. The runway soundtrack turning on and off, microphones blaring as producers give out instructions, designers all running around making sure every stitch is in place. This scene is certainly what you'd see at top brands like Coach, Ralph Lauren, and Eckhaus Latta; it’s also exactly what we saw backstage at The New School’s Parsons School of Design MFA fashion show. The school’s alumni include Tom Ford, Anna Sui, and Marc Jacobs, all of them showed their work at one point in this same way.
Demi Lovato Paid the Price of Early Fame. Was It Worth It?
Demi Lovato is a seasoned professional. We’re standing in the spacious kitchen of Gwen, a hip Hollywood steakhouse, and I am trying to pay attention to the cooking class we’re taking while making sure my recorder is picking up her voice amid the bustling atmosphere. My anxiety must be written all over my face because Lovato holds out her perfectly manicured hand and offers to hold the recorder to her mouth as we speak. After I hand it to her, she doesn’t miss a beat, continuing to tell me about the price child stardom demanded from her as she also follows Chef Curtis Stone’s instructions to prepare steak and an heirloom tomato and mozzarella salad.
