Jennie M. Rader

Jennie M. Rader, age 91, of Tecumseh, Mich., passed away, May 23, 2023, at Hospice of Lenawee Hospice Home into the loving arms of Our Lord Jesus Christ. She was born December 28, 1931, in Ridgeway Twp., Mich. to Walter J. Jr. and Jennie (Hicks) Bird. Jennie was a longtime resident of Tecumseh and attended Tecumseh High School. Jennie married William “Red” Rader on November 13, 1948. He preceded her in death on October 27, 2005. They were married 56 years together. 

Jennie enjoyed selling Stanley Home Products for six years, where she met with women in their homes. Jennie stopped selling Stanley when she started working full time at Kroger’s in Tecumseh where she was employed for many years. Jennie also enjoyed baking and decorating cakes for weddings and other occasions. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Tecumseh for over 75 years and was actively involved in the church throughout her adult life. Jennie always volunteered to help prepare meals celebrating special events at the church. The Covenant Church took over the building of First Baptist Church where she attended. 

Jennie is survived by her son, Gary (Merry) Rader of Erie, Mich.; granddaughters, Amy (Douglas Miller) Rader of Ypsilanti, Mich., and Heather (Tim) Soule of Mason, Mich.; grandsons, Troy (Mandy) Oscar of Lambertville, Mich. and Scott (Pricilla) Hall of Ingleside, Texas; brother, Rev. Robert Bird of Adrian, Mich., and several great grandchildren. 

In addition to her husband, William “Red,” she was preceded in death by her parents, one son, Douglas Rader; three daughters, Deborah Rader, Carol Eddings and Sherry Rader; three sisters, Betty Smith, Judy Haveman and Mary Garland; and brother-in-law, Charles Garland.

Visitation for Jennie will be held on Thursday, June 1, 2023 from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. at Covenant Church, 5290 Milwaukee Rd., Tecumseh, Mich. Memorial services will follow at 11 a.m. with Rev. Alan Maki officiating. Burial will be at Brookside Cemetery.

Arrangements are under the care of J. Gilbert Purse Funeral Home, Adrian, Mich. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospice of Lenawee, 1903 Wolf Creek Hwy., Adrian, Mich. in memory of Jennie Rader.  pursefuneralhome.com
