E-waste, Paper Shredding and Prescription Drug Take Back Event held in Mt. Sinai
On May 4, Brookhaven Town Councilwoman Jane Bonner was at the Rose Caracappa Senior Center in Mt. Sinai for her first Paper Shredding, Electronic and Prescription Drug Take Back recycling event of the year. The beautiful weather brought out 520 vehicles to drop off 6360 lbs. of electronic waste, 16,480 lbs. of paper for shredding and 11 boxes of prescription drugs for proper disposal.

Five people arrested for selling flavored vape products in Huntington
Suffolk County Police arrested five employees on May 13 for allegedly selling flavored vape products in the Second Precinct. As part of the department’s “Operation Smoke Out,” Second Precinct Crime Section officers conducted an investigation into eleven smoke shops during which employees sold flavored vape products to an underage person at five of the businesses. The following people were arrested and charged with Unlawfully Dealing with a Child 2nd Degree and Public Health Law Sale of Flavored Vape Products:

Man killed in Commack motorcycle crash
Suffolk County Police Second Squad detectives are investigating a motor vehicle crash that killed a motorcyclist in Commack on May 13. Susan Capone was driving a 2020 Volkswagen westbound on Jericho Turnpike when she attempted to make a left turn into a parking lot, located at 6070 Jericho Turnpike, and collided with a 2017 Kawasaki motorcycle being driven eastbound at 4:15 p.m. The driver of the motorcycle, Jordan Aristondo, 22, of Commack, was pronounced dead at the scene. Capone, 51, of Hauppauge, was not injured.

Man arrested after stabbing at Huntington Station deli
Suffolk County Police arrested a man on May 12 for allegedly stabbing and seriously injuring another man in. Two men were engaged in a verbal dispute inside Las Lajas Deli, located at 156 Depot Road, when one of the men stabbed the other in the neck, chest, and abdomen at approximately 10 p.m. Second Precinct officers arrived at the scene and arrested Adelcy Almendarez for the stabbing. The 40-year-old victim was transported to a local hospital in serious but stable condition.
Town of Smithtown hosts community blood drive May 15
