A man and woman were attacked by two dogs Tuesday morning while walking at a Tarrant park.
The attack happened about 5:30 a.m. at Chief Billy Hewitt Park on Pinson Valley Parkway.
Tarrant Police Chief Wendell Major said 911 received a call from a woman who said two dogs were attacking a man.
The chief said the man is a regular walker at the park and is always the first to arrive there in the morning.
The woman, who was also walking in the park, tried to help the man when the dogs turned on her.
When police arrived on the scene, they fired about six shots at the dogs. Both were struck several times but ran off toward the Robinwood area.
One of the dogs was later found dead behind a building of Alabama 79. Police located the second dog Tuesday afternoon and will turn the dog over to the Greater Birmingham Humane Society.
The injured man is in critical condition with life-threatening injuries, Major said. The woman is expected to survive but sustained serious injuries.
