2 hospitalized after dog attack in Tarrant park

TARRANT, Ala. (WIAT) — Two people have been hospitalized following a dog attack in Tarrant.

According to Tarrant Chief of Police Wendell Major, two people were bitten Tuesday morning at the Billy Hewitt Park on the 2400 block of Pinson Valley Parkway.

Tarrant police said a man who walked the park every morning was attacked by two dogs. When a woman tried to help him, the dogs turned around and attacked her. Both of them were rushed to the hospital, and the man is in critical condition.

“Officers shot the two dogs who ran off. We followed the blood trail out into the unincorporated part of Jefferson County,” said Wendell Major, Tarrant’s chief of police.

According to Major, one dog has been found shot dead and is believed to be one of the two dogs who attacked the victims this morning. A second dog has been found and is in custody.
