NEWARK — The city's “National Night Out” event initially set for Tuesday, Aug. 6, will instead be held Tuesday, Aug. 13, due to a thunderstorm forecast, authorities said.

The crime-fighting and drug-prevention awareness event endorsed by the National Association of Town Watch will now be held 2-8 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 13, at West Side Park, Public Safety Director Fritz Fragé announced.

Attendees at National Night Out will enjoy free food, music, bouncy rides, a dunk tank, and other fun and informative activities for both children and adults, Fragé said. The Newark police and fire divisions, along with the Office of Emergency Management, will participate, he said.

The park may be accessed via the 17th Avenue and 17th Street Entrance, officials said. On-street parking is available.

A flood watch remains in effect from 2 p.m. Tuesday through Wednesday morning for Essex County and surrounding areas, according to the National Weather Service.
