2 killed in Hillsborough crash after man drives through red light

The driver of a pickup truck and a passenger in an SUV were killed in the crash, the Florida Highway Patrol reported.

The crash occurred at 8:35 p.m. at Nebraska and Florida avenues. The people killed were a 46-year-old man from Tampa and a 32-year-old woman from Lutz, according to a news release issued by the highway patrol on Monday.

Troopers said the 46-year-old man was driving a pickup truck southeast on Nebraska when he “failed to stop for a red traffic signal” and hit an SUV driven by a 33-year-old Tampa man that was heading northeast on Florida Avenue. The woman from Lutz was a passenger in the SUV. She died on the scene, troopers said.

The pickup truck driver died at a hospital, according to the news release. The driver of the SUV suffered serious injuries, troopers said.

No other information, including the names of the people involved, were released.
