Man killed in drive-by shooting at Tampa apartment complex; suspect still at large: HCSO

TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal shooting after a man was found dead in front of a Tampa apartment complex Monday afternoon.

Shortly after 2:15 p.m., the sheriff’s office said they received calls about gunshots being heard at the Del Rio Apartments. When deputies arrived, they found a deceased man in front of the complex.

During the investigation, HCSO detectives discovered that the shooting occurred when a vehicle drove past the Del Rio Apartments and opened fire several times in the direction of the complex before driving away.

Authorities said shortly after the shooting, the vehicle in connection was found and is now part of the investigation.

“Our detectives work hard to solve these cases, and ensure the violent criminals that terrorize our communities see justice,” Sheriff Chad Chronister said in a statement. “This shooting not only killed a man, but it endangered the lives of families who live and were enjoying their Memorial Day outside.”

At this time, there is no suspect in custody. The sheriff’s office said there is also no information as to who the intended target of the drive-by shooting was.

According to HCSO, it’s unclear if the male victim knew the people in the vehicle where the shots came from.

Anyone with information about the fatal shooting is asked the call detectives at 813-247-8200
