Hillsborough sheriff’s office investigates after inmate dies in county jail

The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office is investigating after an inmate died at a county jail early Monday morning.

Staff at the Falkenburg Road Jail found the inmate unresponsive around 4 a.m., the sheriff’s office said in a news release. Deputies and medical personnel performed lifesaving measures until Hillsborough County Fire Rescue arrived and pronounced the inmate dead.

The sheriff’s office said the inmate had an “extensive medical history” and that their name would be released after next of kin has been notified. No further information was immediately available.
