Resignations and RAGBRAI

June 5 Tama Council meeting

TAMA – The June 5 Tama city council meeting started with a scramble to get council member Aaron Haughey on the phone so the meeting could begin. Council members Larry Thomas and Emily Babinat were also absent, leaving the number of those present dwindling. Once council member Haughey was present via speakerphone, the meeting commenced.

The biggest bit of business was the acceptance of the resignation of Tama City Attorney Daniel Rathjen. In a letter, Rathjen stated wanting to spend more time with his family.

One of the first things approved was the closure of Third Street on June 24 for an event at the Tama Pump.

Replacement for the walk-in door of the Tama Fire Station was approved. The replacement will cost $9,700 and the original framework will stay.

A public hearing for the RAGBRAI ordinance was set for the next Tama City Council meeting. It was also decided that the Tama city offices will be closed on the Thursday and Friday of RAGBRAI.

A loan was approved for Marty Hardon.
