On the morning of Sunday, May 28, Kern County firefighters were called to a fast-moving fire involving multiple homes in Taft.
Upon arrival at the 100 block of Pico Street, they saw massive flames which were spreading from one to a nearby fence and second home, said officials. Firefighters began to make an aggressive attack, while others searched for people inside homes. No one was found trapped.
Downed powerlines were found, and that created an additional hazard to crews in the area. Firefighters worked cautiously around the downed lines and were able to knock down the fires.
While on scene, crews assisted the property owners in saving items from their homes. Crews remained on scene to ensure no hot spots remained.
One person said they reported feeling ill, but they refused to be transported. No other injuries were reported.
