Head-on crash on Hwy 119 leaves 1 dead: CHP

TAFT, Calif. (KGET) — One person died and two suffered major injuries after a head-on crash involving three vehicles on westbound Highway 119 Wednesday morning, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The highway patrol received a call regarding a three-vehicle crash on Highway 119, east of Coles Levee, at about 5:30 a.m., according to officials.

An investigation showed a 2019 GMC Sierra was traveling east on Highway 119 at about 55 mph, a Ford F250 was traveling at about 55 mph in the westbound lane and a 2005 GMC Sierra was traveling behind the Ford F250 at an unknown speed, according to CHP.

For an unknown reason, the 2019 GMC Sierra veered into the westbound lane and crashed with the Ford F250, according to CHP. The 2019 GMC Sierra then collided head-on with the 2005 GMC Sierra.

Officials say the driver of the 2005 GMC Sierra sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The drivers of the 2019 GMC Sierra and Ford F250 were transported to Kern Medical with major injuries.

Officials say drugs or alcohol do not appear to be factors in the crash.
