Editorial: CT Democrats further cement one-party rule, but change is still possible

Connecticut electoral politics has been dully predictable in recent years. Not since 2006 has a Republican been elected to Congress or a Connecticut constitutional office, including the governorship. The last time the GOP won majority status in the state Senate was 1997, aside from an 18-18 tie in 2016; in the House, 1984. Since the 2018 election, Democrats have enjoyed a trifecta – control of the executive and legislative branches of state government – but Republican nominees continued to win their share of state House and Senate seats.
