EAGAN, MINNESOTA - Two people were arrested in the City of Eagan, Minnesota, during the execution of a search warrant that resulted in multiple drug-related felony charges on Tuesday, November 28, 2023. The culmination of a several-month-long narcotics investigation started in April 2023, headed by a detective in the Olmsted County Sheriff's Office and a Southeast Minnesota Violent Crime Enforcement Team member. The final result was the arrest of Teresa Arellano of Eagan, Minnesota, and Eliseo Romo of St Paul, Minnesota, who both were charged with four separate felonies and the seizure of 17.196 pounds of methamphetamine and 13,500 pills of Oxycodone.

The Denver Parks department wants to order $10 million worth of prefabricated toilets with drinking fountains. It’s good news for people experiencing homelessness who struggle to find toilets in the city. A survey conducted in September for Housekeys Action Network Denver by Regis University and the University of Denver describes how 82% of people did not have access to a restroom within two blocks of their encampment. More than two-thirds did not have access to drinking water within two blocks. The researchers interviewed 193 people experiencing homelessness in Denver and held five focus groups from 2020 to 2023. The group mapped 271 fountains and public toilets in Denver.

Several people experiencing homelessness and those who support them told the City Council Monday that encampment sweeps in harsh weather must stop. They spoke in support of an ordinance that would disallow sweeps when the temperature dips below 32 degrees. “I have been out there and have watched,” said Richard Creswell during public comment period. “No one can find their gloves.” He said encampment sweepers shake the tents of the unhoused early in the morning, telling them to pack up and get out. He said sometimes crews will use a Bobcat poised to bulldoze a tent to get people to move faster. “They say if you don’t do this, we’re going to throw away your tent.” Creswell said campers often grab the frozen tent poles with their bare hands, which feel like they’re burning. “It’s really cruel.”

Migrants will move out of the Raddison Hotel at 4849 Bannock Street in District 9 and traditionally unhoused people will move in under a plan by the mayor’s office. Denver homelessness czar Cole Chandler briefed the City Council on the hotel master lease during Tuesday’s mayor-council meeting. The city plans to master lease the hotel from Quebec Hospitality Inc. for $10.4 million through Dec. 31, 2024. The city has been leasing blocks of rooms. Quebec Hospitality Inc. also owns the Comfort Inn off Quebec where migrants have been staying.
