TACOMA, Wash. — For nearly three weeks a traveling nurse has been in a fight for his life at a Tacoma hospital. Bradley Inniss was at a friend’s home in Parkland when witnesses say a man burst into the apartment and accused someone of parking in his parking spot.
“From the time I heard ‘someone’s in my parking spot’ to shots fired, it was like 12 seconds,” says Louis Davis, who was at the home.
He says Inniss did not live in the apartment and wasn’t parked in the wrong spot, but that the man shot him and fled.
Davis worked to quickly create a GoFundMe for the Inniss family so that they could fly from Barbados and be with him in the hospital.
“I mean, you changed a man’s life over nothing,” says Davis.
Ann Inniss, tells KIRO 7 her son was a traveling nurse and was excited to come to Tacoma in March. Before he was shot in the same community he was trying to help.
“He was actually willing to come from his last contract in Maryland all the way to Washington state. Because that’s what he does. That’s what he’s interested and willing to do. Wherever he’s needed he will go,” says Ann Inniss.
From his hospital bed, Bradley tells KIRO 7 that he loves being a nurse. “I’ve always enjoyed putting a smile on other people’s faces. I’ve always tried to give the best for the people that I serve,” says Bradley. “I want to thank the doctors and nurses. My mom. Louis.”
Davis hopes that the community that let Bradley down, will now step up and donate to his recovery. He’s already has been through multiple surgeries and has months of rehab ahead of him.
“My son will never be the same. Physically, emotionally, mentally. He will not be the same,” says Ann Inniss.
As for the man who’s suspected of shooting Bradley, he’s out on bail facing an assault charge.
