The Sigourney-Keota Cobra football team has a chance to keep their strong season rolling and lock up a postseason bid when they travel to Colfax-Mingo Friday. SK is 5-1 on the year, winners of five straight, and an unbeaten 3-0 in district play, outscoring their opponents 135-28 in three district games, including a 42-21 win at Pella Christian a week ago. The Cobras outgained the Eagles 461-321, and put up more than 400 of their yards on the ground. Isaac Bruns had a 232 yard rushing night with three scores, Jacob Libe and Brady Clark had rushing touchdowns, and Braydon Wood threw a score to Bruns. On defense, Ashton Schwab and John Berg each had six tackles and Zach Guffey recovered a fumble. Sigourney-Keota enters this week ranked No. 8 in Class 1A in the latest poll from the Iowa High School Athletic Association. This year, SK is averaging 32 points per game and giving up 17, with 311 yards per night, 275 rushing. Individually, Wood is nine of 16 throwing for two scores and three picks. Bruns has caught three balls for 86 yards and a touchdown. Clark, Ayden Galindo and Hunter Sellers also have touchdown grabs. Bruns is the leader on the ground with 127 carries, 929 yards and state best 14 touchdowns. Ike Molyneux has added three rushing scores. Ashton Schwab has 26 tackles, five for loss. Owen Menke has seven for loss, the Cobras as a team have 34 TFLs. Clark, Bruns and Berg each have two takeaways. SK ranks in the top 10 of Class 1A in 15 different team and individual categories.

The Hillcrest Academy Raven volleyball team celebrated their first Senior Night since 2021 Tuesday, but it was the Wapello Arrows that got the win in Kalona in four sets. The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk football team returns home under the lights at Dwight G. Sattler Field in Wellman tonight to celebrate their seniors when they host Central Lee. The Golden Hawks are 3-3 on the year, 3-0 in district and riding a three game winning streak following a 24-8 win at Mediapolis. Against the Bulldogs, the Hawks won total yards 304-208 and the turnover battle 3-0 with Conner Wiles, Cyris Christner and Peyton Fox recovering fumbles. Kaden Kos had seven tackles, two for loss. Offensively, Hudson Ehrenfelt had 153 All-purpose yards and three rushing touchdowns. Brady Weber was 10 of 15 passing for 136 yards and a score to Ace Peck, who hauled in three balls for 71 yards total. On the year, the Golden Hawks average 27 points per game and give up 17, posting 301 yards of total offense 183 through the air, with a +6 turnover margin. Weber is 76 of 120 throwing for 1,099 yards, seven touchdowns and just one interception. Ehrenfelt has 949 all-purpose yards on 143 touches, and 17 total touchdowns. Peck has two touchdown grabs, Cobi Hershberger one. Kos leads the defense with 62 stops and 14 TFLs, most in 2A. Fox, Christner, Wiles, Kos, Ehrenfelt, Hershberger and Keatyn Myers all have a takeaway this year. The Golden Hawks rank in the top 10 of 2A in 16 different categories.
