BEAUMONT, Texas — A 20-year-old Port Arthur woman has been sentenced to three years on probation and a fine for hiding the suspect in a December 2023 homicide. Lexie Bennett, 20, of Port Arthur, was sentenced to a 3-year probated sentence Monday morning by Judge Raquel West in Jefferson County's 252nd District Court. Bennet, who must also pay a $500 fine, pleaded guilty to the 3rd degree felony charge on August 19, 2024.

In early predictions hurricane Milton, a category four storm, barrels towards Florida, due Wednesday evening. Thankfully, that has been delayed. However the fear of evacuation and losing power threw us into an early Tuesday afternoon deadline. Mark Dunn, who produces our publications, is in Florida and feared that if we waited any longer to complete the papers to send to press we would be gambling. The eye of the storm is predicted to go over his home as it passes across the Florida Peninsula later. He says it has been raining since Saturday.
