As the football season hit’s the midway point, East Carolina University sits at 3-3 and 1-1 in the American Athletic Conference. It’s been a season filled with ups and downs for the Pirates, as they’ve shown some positive flashes but have struggled to maintain consistency. After starting the season off 2-0, the Pirates have lost the last three out of 4 games.

IRVING, Texas – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly swimming and diving awards. Kalawska captured two event wins in East Carolina’s season-opening meet against Gardner-Webb, Barton and Catawba on Oct. 5 in Greenville, N.C. The junior won the 100-yard butterfly in 56.49 and captured the 200 butterfly in 2:04.21, the 23rd-ranked time in the nation.

NC State cross country split its efforts between two meets on Friday, Oct. 4. Eight Wolfpack women and seven members of the men’s squad traveled to Chicago to race in the Sean Earl Loyola Invitational, while seven athletes stayed home in North Carolina to compete in the ECU Pirate Invitational. The red-and-white women placed second in a highly competitive field and the men’s squad placed seventh out of 15 teams at the Sean Earl Invite.

The East Carolina Swim Team started its swim season with a bang in the Pirate Duels here in Greenville, North Carolina. ECU took the win in every competition it took place in, defeating Barton College, Catawba College and Gardner-Webb University. “I thought we swam well for the first meet.” ECU Head Coach Matthew Jabs said after the meet. “We still have some work to do, but overall, the staff and I are pleased.”

GREENVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) — On Saturday, the Pirates fell to UNC Charlotte 55-24 at Jerry Richardson Stadium. The 49ers scored on back-to-back drives, starting the game up 14-0. ECU was able to keep it somewhat close and have a hand in the fight until the fourth quarter when UNC Charlotte blew it open, putting 21 points on the board.

SouthWest Edgecombe hadn't done well against Farmville Central recently (they were 1-7-1 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Monday. The SouthWest Edgecombe Cougars' defense stepped up to hand the Farmville Central Jaguars a 1-0 shutout. Victor Carrillo had the honor of scoring the game-winner for the Cougars.
