CUSTER COUNTY, Colo. (KKTV) - A multi-day rescue mission on a Colorado 14er ended happily, with the hiker safe and not severely injured. Authorities say the hiker kicked off their own rescue mission Sunday afternoon by activating a Garmin device after becoming stranded on a steep ledge more than 13,000 feet up. The GPS signal put them along the Kirk Couloir, a natural bridge between the Kit Carson and Challenger peaks in Saguache County. Numerous agencies responded, including Saguache, Alamosa, Custer and Chaffee counties’ search and rescue teams.

In recent years, more than a few monuments have come down due to their having represented painful times in our country's history. Will a city in Colorado be doing the same?. While no one seems to be talking about any name change for the city, it does seem like it's just a matter of time, if the trend continues.

La Veta was the 3-1 winner over Hoehne when they last played one another back in August, but their luck changed this time around. The La Veta Redhawks fell just short of the Hoehne Farmers by a score of 3-2 on Saturday. While the Redhawks didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Farmers 25-22 in the first set.

Ellicott hasn't had much luck against Rye recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Ellicott Thunderhawks will square off against the Rye Thunderbolts at 7:00 p.m. Considering both teams were shutout in their prior games, the pair is probably coming into this one with something to prove.
