The woman killed in crash allegedly fueled by road rage in Rohnert Park has been identified as Carena Lashey Piccinotti. The woman was killed on Saturday afternoon, by a driver who police say fled the scene. Investigators say the deadly crash was one in a series of crashes the same driver caused in a short period of time. The driver, 20-year-old Diego Diaz Hernandez, is behind bars and facing a murder charge. Piccinotti was riding in the front passenger seat of a Volkswagen SUV that was hit, pushed into oncoming traffic, then hit by another car.

Three Santa Rosa residents who had been considered missing for several months have been found alive. The Santa Rosa Police Department credits its social media campaign aimed at bringing awareness to missing persons cases. A 31-year-old woman, 63-year-old woman and 68-year-old man were found in recent weeks. They had all been featured in the “Missing Person Monday” campaign in September. The Santa Rosa Police Department says it will launch a third campaign to find missing people in early 2025. Nine people have been found so far, after the first two campaigns.

The transitional housing community Los Guilicos Village, located about 1.2 miles east of Oakmont and housing 60 homeless people in 60 tiny homes, will be torn down soon. The facility is operated by the County of Sonoma. A bulletin states that St. Vincent de Paul is taking over the “dilapidated” buildings and moving all residents who have not found housing into dormitories just behind Los Guilicos. The reason given for demolishing these homes is that they are temporary, and “Eliza’s Village” will provide permanent housing.

SACRAMENTO, California - Raykheem Andrew Guthery, a 32-year-old from Vallejo, has been sentenced to five years in prison for possessing ammunition, according to U.S. Attorney Phillip A. Talbert. The sentencing follows a June 2022 incident where Guthery was found with a firearm during a vehicle stop. Guthery was stopped by law enforcement for driving without license plates and initially misrepresented his identity, claiming he was not on parole or probation and was unarmed. SANTA ROSA, CA — The Santa Rosa Police Department has reportedly arrested an individual in connection with a shooting near Olive and Earle streets. According to a press release by the Santa Rosa Police Department, officers responded to reports of gunshots near Olive Street and Earle Street in the early morning hours of Saturday, Oct. 5. A caller reported seeing a person enter a silver Toyota Tacoma and drive away from the area following the sound of gunfire.

Monday was a day of remembrance on the Sonoma State University campus. Members of the Jewish community gathered at Seawolf Plaza to pay tribute to the people killed and taken hostage in the Hamas attack on Israel, which happened one year ago on Monday. The event was hosted by Hillel of Sonoma County. At least 12-hundred people were killed in the initial October 7th attack and 254 people were taken hostage, including 12 Americans. An estimated 101 hostages are still in Gaza, including seven Americans.

What does the Sonoma County septic system look like? The County of Sonoma today unveiled a new study and interactive map of more than 36,000 local parcels with septic systems, highlighting opportunities and challenges relating to wastewater treatment in vast areas of the county that are not currently served by a sewer system. The study, presented yesterday to the Sonoma County Board of Supervisors, examined the locations of septic systems and identified areas where existing or future wastewater management entities could serve rural property owners. It explores the feasibility of forming new wastewater districts or modifying the boundaries of existing districts to serve communities where septic systems are highly concentrated. The study also identified 47 community clusters that could potentially benefit from shared septic systems, connecting to adjacent sewer systems, or the creation or modification of a shared wastewater management entity.

Vallejo Police Department officers apprehended a man and sequestered two loaded firearms following a traffic stop on Sunday. According to a Vallejo Police Department Facebook post, the action transpired shortly after 1:30 A.M. when officers patrolling the area heard gunshots near Capitol and Marin Streets. They reported seeing a black Kia Sportage driving on the wrong side of the road along Florida Street.

Sonoma County residents are the 18th happiest residents in California. That’s according to a happiness report recently released by state lawmakers. The rankings are from a first-of-its-kind survey conducted by the Select Committee on Happiness and Public Policy Outcomes. Lake County, meanwhile, is dead last, ranking 58th out of the state’s 58 counties. Marin County is home to the happiest residents in the North Bay, scoring second overall on the statewide list. Napa County ranks 25th and Mendocino County ranks 33rd. Alpine County, south of Lake Tahoe, is the happiest county in California.

After being extended several times, a heat advisory for the North Bay has finally expired. It expired at eleven o’clock Monday night, after multiple triple-digit days in Santa Rosa and nearby cities. Some long-standing high temperature records were also broken and tied during the more than week-long heatwave. A high of 90 degrees is expected in Santa Rosa today. Forecasters are calling for highs in the 70s by Friday, and by Friday night, there will be a chance of rain. But, showers, if there are any, are expected to be light. The coast and some spots further inland could see a tenth of an inch of rain.
