Illinois State Police Troop 9 responded to a two vehicle accident Tuesday night on US Rt. 50 near Indian Ridge Road in Flora. State Police say just after 10:30 a 2000 Toyota Tacoma was traveling westbound on US 50. A 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee was traveling eastbound on US 50. The Toyota Tacoma crossed the center lane markings and struck the Jeep Grand Cherokee head-on. Both drivers and the passenger from the Jeep were transported to Clay County Hospital with injuries. US 50 was shut down until shortly after midnight while officers investigated the crash.

MARION COUNTY – An investigation by special agents with the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation has resulted in the indictment of a former Jasper police officer. On July 29th, at the request of 12th Judicial District Attorney General Courtney Lynch, TBI agents began investigating allegations of misconduct involving a Jasper police officer. During the investigation, agents learned that on July 26th, Lillian Michele Lockhart (DOB: 9/12/95) reported for duty intoxicated. Further investigation revealed that while intoxicated, Lockhart responded to calls for service in her police vehicle.

The driver of a moped that allegedly fled an attempted traffic stop by Marion County Sheriff’s Deputies early last night was eventually arrested on multiple charges. Deputies say they tried to stop 40-year-old Michael Smith of Maple Street in Sandoval on the Bowen Road in rural Sandoval because he was operating a moped on a roadway. After allegedly ignoring lights and sirens, Smith allegedly entered a soybean field headed westbound. Deputies relocated to where the hedge row comes out on the other side of the field. When the moped didn’t come out, deputies walked the hedgerow and were able to detain both Smith and a passenger.

The jury trial of Ray Tate Jr. in Clinton County Circuit Court had been scheduled for last month but is now tentatively scheduled for later this month. The defendant is serving a life prison sentence for killing Wayne County Deputy Sean Riley in December of 2021. He allegedly went on a crime spree that day, which led to him being charged with 30 offenses in Clinton County.

Illinois State Police (ISP) Troop 9 Commander, Captain Nathan Douglas, announces the results of Alcohol Countermeasure Enforcement (ACE) patrols in Effingham, Edwards, Lawrence, Marion, White and Clay counties during September. These ACE patrols allowed the ISP to focus on preventing, detecting, and taking enforcement action in response to violations associated with impaired driving and illegal transportation or consumption of alcohol or drugs.

(Robinson) – The RHS Soccer Team fell 2-1 to Richland County yesterday. Head Coach, Hilary Maxwell, says while they came up short they played great and never gave up.
