Cocoa man sentenced to 14 years for firearm and silencer possession
ORLANDO, Florida - Dana Hunter Calley, a 54-year-old from Cocoa, has been sentenced to 14 years in federal prison for possessing a firearm or ammunition as a convicted felon and possessing unregistered silencers. U.S. District Judge Roy B. Dalton, Jr. delivered the sentence following Calley's conviction by a federal jury on June 10, 2024. Law enforcement executed a search warrant at Calley's residence on September 20, 2023, seizing four firearms, three silencers, and thousands of rounds of ammunition, according to evidence presented at trial. A second search warrant on April 5, 2024, led to the seizure of six silencers in various stages of production. At the time of these offenses, Calley was prohibited from possessing firearms under federal law due to his status as a convicted felon. The case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Brevard County Sheriff's Office. It was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Diane Hu and Special Assistant United States Attorney Matthew Del Mastro. This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods, a program aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence, according to a press release from the Department of Justice.
