Boyden, Iowa — A round baler and a tractor were destroyed in a fire on Wednesday, October 2, 2024, near Boyden. According to Boyden Fire Chief Chris Starkenburg, at about 4:30 p.m., the Boyden Fire Department was called to the report of a baler and field fire south of 350th Street on Kiwi Avenue, two miles west and three south of Boyden.

PRIMGHAR—A 37-year-old Sioux Falls, SD, man was arrested Wednesday, Oct. 2, following a one-vehicle crash near Primghar. The arrest of Todd Michael Sohn stemmed from him losing control of an eastbound 2010 Chevrolet Silverado when he said the accelerator stuck on 385th Street and the pickup went off the T-intersection at the Sorrel Avenue about a mile northeast of Primghar about 1:50 p.m., according to the O’Brien County Sheriff’s Office.

After being put on hold when record flooding hit northwest Iowa earlier this summer, the community of Hawarden is now celebrating a big upgrade to its medical facility.

Des Moines, Iowa — Governor Kim Reynolds and the Iowa Economic Development Authority on Wednesday announced 190 thousand dollars in grants have been awarded to ten rural Iowa communities, including one in our area. The grant awards are provided through three Empower Rural Iowa Grant programs, and will support rural initiatives including housing, childcare, and business/economic growth.

Paullina, Ia (KICD) – South O’Brien hosted the Wolverine Cross Country Meet at the Paullina Golf Course on Thursday. In the Girls Race, it was Hinton’s Ava Lang winning with a time of 22:16.26. Estherville Lincoln Central’s Rylee yager took 2nd at 22:54.51, Kylie Robinson of Sheldon took 5th at 24:10.76, followed by Estherville Lincoln Central’s Helen Lavender who clocked 24:19.71.
