A man died in a semi-tractor accident over the weekend in Sac County. According to Sac County Sheriff Ken McClure, the accident happened early Saturday morning southwest of Odebolt north of county road D-59 and Cory Avenue. A preliminary investigation indicates that 29-year-old Jeff Pubien of Omaha, Nebraska was traveling north on Cory Avenue where he crossed D-59 and lost control on the gravel road. Cory Avenue is a paved road south of D-59, and turns to gravel on the north side of the intersection. The semi-tractor entered the west ditch, where the semi-tractor rolled several times before coming to rest on the passenger side in a picked cornfield. Pubien was not wearing a seat belt, and was pinned inside the cab. He was extricated by Odebolt Fire Rescue.

A Storm Lake woman received multiple charges related to an alleged assault incident. According to the Storm Lake Police Department, officers were called to the BVRMC Emergency Room at approximately 1am Sunday on a report of a belated assault. The victim alleged that they had been assaulted the previous evening in the street in the 300 block of East 9th Street in Storm Lake. The suspect allegedly struck the victim several times in the head with a handgun, which caused facial lacerations. The suspect reportedly fled the scene in a vehicle after the incident.

The Sac County 100 People Who Care has donated over $2,500 to Twilight Acres for a much-needed building maintenance project. The retirement and assisted living facility has been serving seniors with the highest quality of care for the past sixty years and, like other rural nonprofit organizations, is facing financial hardships. The 39-bed facility must replace the building’s boiler and some pipes to ensure residents and staff remain comfortable and warm in the upcoming winter months. The Sac County 100 People Who Care presented a check with their donations to Twilight Acres during their last quarterly meeting of the year yesterday (Sunday) afternoon. Since its inception in 2016, the community group has assisted 28 charities or nonprofits with thousands of dollars each year for projects and services. The next meeting for the Sac County 100 People Who Care will be on Jan. 12, 2025, and those interested in joining are welcome and encouraged to attend.

PAULLINA — Running for over 500 yards, Class A No. 8 ranked Gehlen Catholic clinched the District 1 title with a 56-21 victory over South O’Brien on Friday. “The guys have worked really hard this year and it’s another box that we get to check off with our goals and we keep moving forward. We’ll enjoy it for a day and then we’ll get to work on H-M-S next week,” Gehlen head coach Jeremy Schindler said. “Obviously we want to finish things right next week and be undefeated district champs, undefeated in district play.”
